The Other Road

Ignorance is not stupidity,
Nor is it a lack of knowledge.
It's a simple act, a turning away,
The constant un-awareness
Of the inherent beauty
Of the nature of existence.

Entire lifetimes,
A billion times over,
Locked into form
Attending shiny things.
A vast hypnosis
This prison of attention,
Truly the cause
Of an ocean of tears.

The human heart,
Unable to rest,
Like an exhausted bird
Over a limitless ocean
With nowhere to land.

The constant bombardment
Of sights, sounds, sensations,
An unceasing agitation
Waking or dreaming,
Yearnings for peace, for rest
From internal storms.

If you make the choice,
To go the other way
To step off the omnibus of insanity,
I consider you my friend,
And I applaud you
For your strength and courage
To take the road less traveled,
and walk the walk of freedom.
