Retreat #1
Seven days of retreat
gone, in a New York minute.
Innumberable expreriences
of every kind -
no need to recount the details.
Some times of vast, blissful space
somt times the shout of Mahamudra
some times a sea of gentle love
some times hot as a blast furnace
to match the summer heat wave.
Speaking of the heat
density and intensity to painful proportions
no longer merely my stuff
(though that was there too)
Was processing all our content collectively
the reason for this is simple:
When hard and dense notions
of I and Other
come tumbling down,
like a detonated building,
giving rise to the View
of the Singular Essence
mind streams of all
are embraced without choice.
If you thinkg you can escape
into solitary freedom,
if you think you can choose
to take the Bodhisattva vow,
well think again,
you've just been volunteered
to partipate in the Great Work
to alleviate the suffering
of every extant being.
The reason is simple:
There is not now
nor ever has been
nor ever will be
a substantive, separate I
to realize anything!
That's the cosmic joke!
That's the Big Surprise!
That's the Great Relief!
Transcendance recognizes itself
in apparent human context.
So we're in this together
and best love the weather,
the work has barely begun.
