Phil's Mondo India Slide Show
Sights of Bombay

One of the most fascinating and unusual sights of Bombay are the dobi-ghats, the laundry capital of Bombay, if not of Asia.

The ghats are made up of numerous of little businesses, each with their own concrete tub. It's a real chaotic looking scene, and it looks like difficult work. The 'dobiwallahs' seem to almost exclusively men, which is suprising, then again, it's not for India.

I found it remarkable that I received every bit of clothes back that I sent out, including socks, which is a much better rate of return, then say, the local laundromat. Hotel laundry is resonably priced here, I'd say wait to you get to Bombay to send out for laundry from your hotel. Comes back in a wrapped up paper bag, neatly folded. Even my underwear looked neatly pressed, but I suppose that's way too much information!
