Phil's Mondo India Slide Show
Sights of Udaipur

After a horrific taxi ride back to Delhi, which I detail in my Travelogue, I flew to the white city of Udaipur in the Rajasthani Desert, southwest of Delhi. Rajasthan is one of most popular tourist destinations in India, and from spending time in Udaipur, I can understand why.

If this scene looks familiar, then you have probably seen the James Bond movie "Octopussy". This scene is the view from my hotel (the Caravanserai, which I recommend) - the Lake Palace hotel in the middle of Lake Pichola, built in 1754. Once the royal summer palace, it has been converted to a 5 star hotel to the tune of 300 US dollars per night.

Jaipur is known for its reddish color and Udaipur for its white hues, reminding me a bit of San Francisco. Udaipur sits in a desert valley ringed by mountains.
