Phil's Mondo India Slide Show
Sights of Kochin
After the backwaters, I spent another day visiting Fort Kochin, which is really mellow for an Indian
city. They have strict zoning laws regarding autos, and they are obeyed, amazingly enough. So it's
very pleasant to walk the streets.
|
This area of Fort Kochin, bizarre as it may sound, is called "Jewtown", and holds a centuries old settlement of Jews
who cam to lived here as part of the Diaspora. There's a chuch and a synagogue in Jewtown, but not Hindu temple.
Most peculiar, mama.
Jewtown is also saturated with spice merchants, making it the best smelling city in India. Remember Chris
Columbus and the spice islands? Here they are.

Yet another photo of the cute children in town. They love to get their picture taken. Meeting with children is one
of the most enjoyable pastimes in touring India, as many westerners come to learn. Will cost you a few pens and
candy pieces, however.
