Phil's Mondo India Slide Show
On the Road to the Himalayas

More interesting sites along the way...

This is the Indian equivalant of the tractor trailer or the lorry. And they are everywhere, and they bellow large quantities of obnoxious black smoke. Many trucks are uniquely decorated as this one, and have interesting signs on the back, the most common being "Horn, please".

In other words, 'please blow your horn while you try to pass me' - which is often a life saving gesture, especially on the poor quality roads of India. And it is an unwritten law that you must pass a truck if you're behind it, even if it is not fouling the atmosphere.

Not only is this truck one of the more well decorated trucks, it is one of the cleanest and well maintained that I saw. The roads make any vehicle look old real fast.

Finally! My first sight of the snow capped Himalayas. Pictures never do it the correct justice, and it was thrilling to see them. As we drove towards the peaks, the valley from which this picture was taken gets narrower and narrower, until the mountains tower over it thousands of feet.
