Phil's Mondo India Slide Show
Sights of Rishikesh

One of the hearts of Rishikesh is the Triveni Ghat located at a sharp bend in the Ganges River. Every morning and evening there is a puja ceremony that is attended by a significant portion of the townspeople.

In the large plaza near the shore of Ganges is this remarkable statue of Lord Shiva, his consort Parvati and assorted yogi paraphenalia - skulls, tiger blanket, etc.

Rishikesh is rank with all sorts of sadhus, many of them 'naga babas' with Rastafarian-like matted hair, very intense looking fellows. On the way to the river, many sadhus line up asking for alms. I asked permission from this man to take his picture, one of the more cleaner looking sadhus. The sadhu next to him is a devotee of Vishnu, as noted by the vertical 'teelak', the marking on his forehead.
