My first day trip was to the Neelkanth temple high in the hills above Rishikesh. a bumpy 4 hour car ride
reminiscent of Jeep commercial landed me in a mountainside town based around this temple. 'Neelkanth' means
'blue throat' a place wher Lord Shiva swallowed some poison to save the world, which caused his throat to turn blue.
As stated in my travelogue, the force of spiritual presence that emenated within the walls of this ancient temple
was overwhleming and beyond any expectation. The intensity of energy is difficult to describe, but suffice to say that
this temple is a jewel of India, and one of the two major surprising highlights of my trip, a place that I had hoped
to find during my journey. The particular energy of a Shiva temple can best described as 'an itensity of pure presence'
or 'amplified reality'.The glass cases by the entrance house life size statues of
Shiva and Parvati. I hope to go back here someday.
