Sights of Sarnath, near Varanasi
I noticed that the architecture of this site was very different than the Hindu temples of northern India - it has more of a Tibetan look and feel. |

In the background of this photo is the Dhamekh stupa, which is said to be the actual spot where Buddha gave his first sermon, and dates to around 200BC. In the foreground is a meditating Southeast Asian monk, which is not unusual, except for the fact that this is noontime in Varanasi, and it is close to 100 degrees fahrenheit and 100 percent humidiy. Betcha he isn't wearing sunscreen. |
