Phil's All Embracing Bhutan Slide Show
On the Way to Thimphu

We had our first look at the Bhutanese countryside on our journey from Paro to Thimphu, the capital. We also got our first taste of how travel in this country works - namely slow, due to the extent of almost 100% windy mountain roads, which are the only connection from point A to B by motor vehicle.

While passing over a river, we came upon this small shrine area that contained chortens/stupas in three distinct styles, Tibetan, Nepalese and Bhutanese.

Shrines containing prayer wheels of various sizes, from the tiny to the immense, dot the countryside in Bhutan. Here is a newly constructed prayer wheel shrine on the road to Thimphu.
