This temple down the street from Thangbi had this particular chain mail over the front entrance. This chain mail was created by Pema Lingpa in one day, according to legend, and apparently local Buddhists wrap it around themselves, which weighs 50 lbs or more, and then they circumabulate a temple or altar, in a Buddhistic form of penance or spiritual purification. I saw several man wearing this chain mail in later sites, circumabulating the altars, and it's far from some weird self-flagellation number. |
