Phil's All Embracing Bhutan Slide Show
Dochu La Pass

The road from Thimphu to Punakha goes northeast and one of the highlights of the journey was lunch at Dochu La Pass, the highest point between both cities at 10,000 feet. There is a restaurant here offering wonderful views of the Himalayan range separating Bhutan from Tibet. And almost as spectacular was the forest of prayer flags at the summit.

The vertical prayer flags are an icon of Bhutan, soaring 20 feet in the air, in four colors, red, white, yellow and blue, representing four Buddha families. Our bus, just to the left of the stupa, is dwarfed by the massive array of flags.

Over the summit road are the more traditional looking prayer flags.
