Phil's All Embracing Bhutan Slide Show
Scenes From Punakha

After the relative cold of the higher elevations of Thimphu and Paro, the warmth of Punakha was welcome relief. It was also a totally new kind of landscape - even though Punakha is north of Thimphu, it is lower in elevation, and had more of tropical feel to it.

Terraced based hillside farming is a standard in mountainous Bhutan, and makes for nice photo ops. As this is March/April, barley and winter wheat is being grown, and rice in warmer times.

Paddies, homes and a pond at the base of the Zangdopelri temple outside Punakha.
