Scenes from Bumthang

This stream is known as the "Burning Lake" - in one of the deep pools, legend has it that Pema Lingpa dived into the pool of water with a burning lantern to retrieve a variety of precious jewels and golden statues at the bottom of the pool. To prove his spiritual prowess, he surfaced with the jewels, statues and the lantern still burning. Hence the name "Burning Lake"

This is a stupa along the rock cliffs near the Burning Lake.

The little items on the altar are known as tsa-tsas, statues made from the remains of cremated individuals.
