Phil's All Embracing Bhutan Slide Show
Scenes from the Zangdopelri Temple
Zangdopelri temple was commissioned by the 3rd of the 4 Queens married to the King
of Bhutan. The 4 queens are all sisters from a town not far from Punakha, and the 3rd
queen, who rose to prominence because she bore the first male child, commissioned
the temple to be built in accordance to a prophecy by Padmasambhava.

The temple is about 1000 feet above the valley floor, and the inner frescoes were finished only
recently after ten years of work. It is a beautiful structure and the inner artwork is magnificent,
but unfortunately photos are not allowed, a standard policy in most temples.
